The first involves charging through an outdoor area, slaying dozens of weaklings. Each of Rastan‘s six levels is broken into two segments. The greatest example of this is found with the boss fights and the castles the bosses reside in. Website best viewed with Chrome or Safari I had a very hard time finding it, not only because it is so hard to find but also because there isn't much interest it seems in GameGear stuff anymore.īottom line: A timeless classic nicely ported to gamegear. The only problem is the extreme rarity of this version, especially complete with box and instructions. If you are looking for a bit of old-fashioned action/platforming action on Sega's 8bit portable, this game will serve you well. Unfortunately, I must point out that the GameGear screen suffers from an annoying blur effect so the graphics don't look as clean as they should!Īnyway to conclude, Rastan on GG is a nice fantasy platformer. The glorious original Rastan score has been nicely replicated and sounds close enough to the arcade (and this is a big plus) while gameplay has been kept challenging although controls are even tighter in this version! Moreover, there is no set time-limit to finish a level but if you take too much time, lights will gradually fade out (this is a nice touch and I think it's the only difference between the GameGear and the Master System version as the rest should be identical). To begin with, the level structure has been slightly altered and is more simplified.Īlso, there is an additional level and an additional boss, a huge, awesome-looking red dragon that really doesn't look like the other bosses (one can tell that it has been added specifically to this version of the game). Rastan Saga for GameGear is basically a port of the seminal arcade game although there are some differences that are worth mentioning. Sure there were lots of other fantasy action games but none really captured the spirit of the Hyborian Age like Rastan did. Review - Being a huge fan of Conan, the closest thing I could get to a Conan action game has been Rastan for a very long time.
